Description: The organization: Sanitizes All digital media prior to disposal, release out of organizational control, or release for reuse using Digital media: overwrite at least 3 times; Non-digital media is not used by Microsoft Azure in the datacenter environment in accordance with applicable federal and organizational standards and policies; and
Requirements: In Azure datacenters , Azure digital media is sanitized using Azure-approved tools and in compliance with NIST SP 800-88 Revision 1 prior to being reused}. Non-digital media is not used by Azure in the datacenter environment. All data bearing devices (DBDs) used by Azure are shredded by an approved ITAD Vendor or customer per customer standards on site. No DBDs leave the Azure datacenters. If hardware is considered volatile and deemed returnable to the supplier, it is shipped out via the standard RMA process as outlined in the Sparing and RMA Strategy.
